"signature on file"
May 16, 2010

Some signatures are well-known and public. In any event they're problematical. Whereas they authenticate a document, they are also a source of identity theft and for that reason I think properly redacted when making a public record of them. This redaction is time consuming and for that reason I am grateful for a judges stamp rather than their signature on such documents.

Similarly, handwritten documents can also be problematical. Because nothing authenticates a document more than seeing it written their in the own handwriting.
